New members

At the February member meeting, Damir Cicak was welcomed as a full member to our chapter. Furthermore, Andreea Bulisache, Therese Burke and Merijn Verschuur were welcomed as candidate members. A warm welcome to you all! We're looking forward to seeing more of you in 2011.

Inside story on the Community and Twinning committee

The focus of the C&T committee is twofold. The committee organizes several projects with positive social impact on the community. As per March 2011 we will join the Hike and Bike project to raise funds for a great cause, the Dutch Red Cross. The team will consist of six participants of which three will hike for 17,5 or 40 kilometres and three will bike for 70 or 160 kilometres through on of the most extraordinary National Parks: Utrechtse Heuvelrug (for more information click here). In this project we combine social events with a good cause, giving it a positive impact on the community. Our second focus of the C&T committee is twinning. Twinning is a partnership between two JCI local organizations. Twinning partners learn, exchange ideas and gain a unique perspective on the world as they participate in joint cross-cultural projects. As per April 2011 a concrete cross-cultural project is the ‘Uitmarkt’ & celebrating Queen’s day project. This project is organized together with the social committee. The focus of this project is participation of members of foreign JCI chapters. The committee plans to organize an extended list of activities for those coming from abroad.

Meetings

Monday the 14th of February the Member Meeting was held at TomTom HQ. After we went through our JCIAI agenda, Joost Jetten VP Sales Benelux & South Africa, gave an exciting presentation about the activities of TomTom. There was a lot of interaction with the group, consisting of 32 JCI guests and (candidate-) members and we got to know a lot about the organisation and the challenges in setting up a business in Africa. After the meeting the participants had a drink at Mövenpick Hotel while still discussing strategies and plans within navigation system business.

On March 18th another meeting took place, the boards of the 3 JCI Chapters in Amsterdam (JCI Amsterdam International, JCI Amsterdam and JCI Zuid) gathered together at Bo Cinq. A very nice opportunity to get to know each other better over some drinks and a good start for strengthening the links between the three chapters.

Social events

On March 12th Annick, Marcus, Binnne, and Bram went to Landgraaf for a skitrip. DSC00980Originally a daytrip was planned to Winterberg, a ski resort in Germany. However, due to bad snow conditions the trip was rescheduled to Landgraaf in Limburg, where the biggest indoor ski slope of Europe can be found. It is 500 m long with real snow and an actual chairlift. No match for the real thing but still very impressive to see.
DSC00985After skiing the group went to Maastricht where they had a nice dinner in the old town and a few drinks afterwards. At this place they met some friends and family of Annick, who live near Maastricht. It was very ‘gezellig’ and time flew by, when they realised they had to return to Amsterdam it was after midnight. One thing is for sure: next year, this event will be organized again and hopefully there are better weather conditions so we can go to Winterberg!

On Friday the 25th of March, the Monthly Drinks were held at Bo Cinq near Leidseplein. Before drinks a dinner at the restaurant part of Bo Cinq was organized. In total 9 people attended the dinner, of which 2 persons came along with a potential member for JCI. The food looked stunning and tasted even better. After dinner the group moved to the bar of Bo Cinq where we were joined by other members. All in all, the monthly drinks were a success! And the social committee will continue to organize this event on a monthly basis.

Thursday the 31st of March our second official squash night was held at Squash city, Amsterdam. There were 5 players in total, some more advanced than others, who played over 2 hours and had some drinks afterwards. Because this event had been so successful, it will be organised every week for different levels. Meaning every Thursday there will be squash, one week for beginners and the other week for advanced players. You are welcome to join!
