What are you going to do in 2012?

2012 may seem far away, but if you are interested in a board position next year now is the time to take action. Already in September the elections for the President of 2012 take place.

We can imagine that you have a lot of questions about procedures, workload, experiences etc. Therefore we would like to invite our (candidate-) members who are interested in a board position in 2012 to send a mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will then inform you shortly about a meeting where we try to answer all your questions. Please send an e-mail before July 6th.

Past events

European Capitals Meeting (ECM ),Tallinn

tallinnFrom May 12th until May 15th the 19th European Capitals Meeting was organized in Tallinn. As JCI Amsterdam International we definitely made an impression and the ECM made a big impression on us! The ECM is a yearly event with the purpose to bring members from capital chapters together to follow trainings, workshops and social activities.  Furthermore there is focus on key issues normally found in capital cities like the environment, traffic, and housing.  As with all other meetings where there are “Jaycees”, the ECM is also a social event where you meet new and old friends from across Europe. There are parties, sightseeing tours and cultural events – all designed to create the right “JCI atmosphere”. JCI Amsterdam International was prominently present in Tallinn with one of the largest delegations. We were with 5 persons out of a total of 200 participants. An informative program was prepared with a lot of interesting company visits, community projects, presentations, workshops and social events. The accommodation was really good with the lectures and workshops being at the same venue as the hotel. Furthermore there was a Spa in one of the hotels that gave us the opportunity to relax after a full day with presentations and workshops and rest after a long night of partying. Let´s try to go next year with an even larger delegation to the ECM in Bern!

European Conference in Tarragona

From 1-4 June 2011 a delegation of our chapter, consisting of 10 members, went to the JCI  European Conference in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain), organized by JCI Catalonia. We joined the Dutch delegation there, as large as 160 members . It was a fantastic event, which had all aspects where JCI stands for:

Tarr2

-         Trainings;

-         Workshops;

-         Board conference;

-         Social activities (like a sailing trip, cultural     sightseeing of Tarragona);

-         Sports (football, basketball);

-         Parties (Belgian and German party which were set up in nice surroundings in the port of Tarragona).

The event started with a great opening ceremony in an arena situated below a castle and consisted of speeches of government delegates of Catalonia, the presentation of JCI National presidents, speeches of several Jaycees and a display of all typical Catalonian cultural aspects, followed by a party and BBQ. The Dutch delegation had also a Dutch delegation night, with Flamengo dancing, eating of typical Catalonian snacks and a speech of the Dutch Consul.

Next to all this,  JCIAI had meetings with our twinningpartners (JCI International Budapest, JCI Brussels) and laid the foundation of new twinningcontacts with JCI Copenhagen and JCI Karlsruhe.

This exciting week, where a lot of new contacts were made, friendships emerged and twinning activities with other JCI cities took place, ended with a great Gala in a former bullfighting Arena and an afterparty in La Pacha, the famous discotheque in Salou. Next day most people returned home, satisfied but tired of an intense week. We are already looking forward to the World Conference in November in Brussels!

Soccer in Tarragona!

SoccerwithfinteamBesides attending presentations, visiting Tarragona and going to the beach some brave men decided to play football and represent the Dutch at the JCI football tournament. From JCI Amsterdam International Bram, Marcus and Binne participated.  About 8 teams attended and we played 7 to 7 on half a soccer field. The support was great as we had a lot of orange dressed fans from the Dutch delegation. We played quite well and had tough matches against Finland and Cataluna. We ended up in the final, but we lost with penalties from the Romanian team. Unfortunately we not only lost the final but also one of our JCIAI players. Bram got injured in one of the first games and broke his collarbone. At the moment Bram is recovering and hoping to be back in action soon.
