News On July the 25th we had an informal meeting with people interested in a board position 2012. On our Member Meeting in August we can hopefully announce the candidates for president 2012. The elections for the 2012 president will be held on the Member Meeting of September! The new elected president will then form a board and the board will present itself in November. Past events The FoodBank Barbecue 2011 was thefirst year in which our chapter organised its own Community event: the FoodBank barbecue. Something to be very proud of and for sure an event that has seta fruitful ground for future cooperation! We got to know the Food Bank through the Christmas Tree event (a shared event with the Amsterdam Chapter) and now have given this partnership a boost by taking this earlier event as a starting point for much more to come.
The sunny sunday afternoon of the 26th of June that we eventually picked for the event, will long be remembered - not only by the ten JCIAI members that participated, but also by the Food Bank clients and volunteers. We baked sausages, sliced bread and got inspired by the Food Bank coordinator, Marius, his energy. In between we mingled with mostly cheerful people from all different backgrounds and different stories: moms with children, couples, seniors. It was insightful for both parties to get to know each other and see where our ambitions for creating a better world can meet. The Community committee is currently debating with Marius which direction further cooperation will lead us, apart from future Christmas and Barbecue events. It might be trainings in the field of groupwork, or sharing knowledge on fundraising. For sure, our chapter will be doingmore than just baking sausages with the Food Bank!
Social events In July, JCI Amsterdam International held it monthly drinks as a ‘terrace hop’ event. On the 22nd July, a week earlier than it would normally be held, we started with drinks at ‘t Blauwe Theehuis, in the Vondelpark. Thereafter went to Vertigo, a stone’s throw away from ‘t Blauwe Theehuis. From there we moved to the Hard Rock cafe and to end the night we went to the famous Jimmy Woo. Also held in July was the yearly BBQ, held at one of our member’s place in Landlust, close to NS station Amsterdam Sloterdijk. The sky was threatening but nothing fell from it. We had lovely Kebabs with salads, bread and drinks. Starters were meat balls in a basil tomatoe sauce.
